Your
FrontPage Account with Spiderlink
Setup and Instructions
Signing up for a Virtual Host Account with Spiderlink Web Services is
easy. After filling out our online order form, your
account is usually setup and ready in less than 24 hours.
Domain Name Registration
New domain names usually take 2 to 3 working days to get registered and
become operational. If you have already registered a domain name with another
provider and are transferring the name over to Spiderlink, we submit a "Modify
Domain" application to Internic which will require approval by either the
"Technical" or "Administrative" contact for that name. Both
contacts will receive an email message from Internic requesting this approval.
Either contact can approve the request by replying to that email message and typing an 'A'
in the appropriate place. Internic always provides detailed instructions in the
contents of the message.
Publishing and Updating your Web site with FrontPage
Before you getting started, you will need to purchase a copy of
Microsoft FrontPage and install it on your computer. To download a Front Page Trial version or learn more about Front Page, Click here Microsoft Front Page.
After we setup your account, we will send you a user id and password which you will use when accessing your
site. After you launch your FrontPage Explorer, the first thing you will see is a
dialog box prompting you to select an existing FrontPage Web to open (See figure 1.1
below).
If this is your first time running FrontPage, there will not be any
FrontPage Webs to choose from. Select the "More Webs" button. A
dialog box will appear prompting you to "Select a Web server or disk location".
Enter your URL and click on the "List Webs" button. A
"<Root Web>" entry will appear under "FrontPage Webs at
location" (See figure 1.2 below). Select this entry and click
"OK". You will be prompted for your user id and password for validation.
After successfully logging in to the server, you are ready to begin authoring your pages.
Note that your "home page" file name should be called one of the
following: default.htm, index.htm, index.html. This is the first
page your visitors will see when they type in your URL. Without this file, your URL will
yield an "Access Forbidden" message by the server.
